I had NO IDEA I had this.

Here’s the deal: I ripped, clipped, encoded and uploaded the videos for the Smith’s Olde Bar posts before I realized that there’d been a screwup with the ripping process, where the left side of stereo was dropping in and out constantly throughout the clips (due to a crappy RCA cord).

So I had to re-rip, re-clip, etc. And just on a whim – because I always thought that there was nothing else ON that tape – I fast-forwarded to see if anything else was on the tape with the Smith’s performance, and what do you know? There was this program with us featured in it.

It was kind of like finding a twenty in the dryer. ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s the chart Tim sent for this one:

Somewhere I have a cassette tape of the demo he made and sent with this chart. That’s another post for another day.

Gotta find a cassette player, for one thing….

Brothers Brooks @ Smith’s Olde Bar (complete show)

1995, upstairs at Smith’s Olde Bar in Atlanta

Part 1

Smith’s made this video, then I think they made us buy it if we wanted it. So Tim or someone bought it and made copies.

The quality of my copy has gone downhill after all these years, especially after being watched a hundred times. And I’ve never liked the mix here; it’s obvious that whoever was mixing for the tape preferred vocals to instrumentation. (By the ninth song or so you can finally hear some keyboards and bass.)

Of the things that make this show and this lineup stand out from most of my other experiences playing: There were no 45-minute guitar solos, no “Statesboro Blues”, no Lynyrd Skynyrd, no Allman Brothers marathons…. It was a crisp show of all-original material, much of which was quite eclectic stuff. This was a high point.

If I do say so myself, this lineup was an exceptional band. ๐Ÿ˜‰

E. G. Kight & Michael Pierce

I believe this was in back of Larry G’s place in Macon.

I might have more video from this day.
