This is from Round Oak, dated May 1995.
This tape (recorded over Bill Evans? Let’s assume it was my cassette. He must have been out.) has “Watch Your Step” and “Lifeline” complete with vox and guitar, then those two again with neither vox nor guitar. I see a pattern.
Buckwheat, bless her heart, was not told the proper key before she was recorded and done. Tim told me that he forgot to tell her to sing the minor third instead of the major you hear during the “Lifeline” part, and only realized it later after she was gone. So, Tim said, what ever… We thought it was close enough, and Karen sounded fucking good.
These were a couple of my favorites. This was the good time.
